The New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium is pleased to announce the election of new executive board members during the most recent board meeting held in June. This election marks a pivotal transition in the organization’s leadership, and solidifies our commitment to growing and supporting primary care training throughout the state.
William “Mac” Bowen, MD, was elected as the new board president. Bowen currently serves as the program director of the University of New Mexico – Santa Fe Family Medicine Residency Program. A board member since 2019, his experience and dedication to enhancing primary care education and services makes him an ideal choice for leading the consortium forward.
Statement from Dr. Bowen: “It is with a profound sense of responsibility and enthusiasm that I accept the role as President of the NMPCTC’s Executive Board. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to outgoing president, John Andazola, whose dedicated leadership and vision have laid a strong foundation for our organization. It’s an honor to follow in such exemplary footsteps. Together with the board, I look forward to steering our organization as we continue our mission of expanding and supporting primary care residencies and workforce throughout New Mexico. Thank you all for entrusting me with this vital role.”
Karen Vaillant, MD, was elected as the new treasurer. Vaillant is currently the Family Medicine Clerkship Director at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Cruces, NM. With nearly 20 years of experience as a program director of a rural family medicine residency program in Roswell, NM, Vaillant brings valuable insights that make her an ideal fit for the role of treasurer.
Statement from Dr. Vaillant: “I am both humbled and excited to have been elected as the Treasurer of the NMPCTC Executive Board. I look forward to contributing to our shared vision and working closely with the other members of the board to further the growth and success of our organization.”
John Andazola MD, the NMPCTC’s founding president, will now serve as the secretary. Andazola currently serves as the NMPCTC’s Designated Institutional Official, and recently completed terms as both NMPCTC board president and program director of the Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program in Las Cruces, NM. His years of service as president have been instrumental in shaping the consortium and his continued service in this new role reflects his unwavering commitment to the NMPCTC and its mission.
Statement from Dr. Andazola: “Having had the distinct privilege to serve as Founding President, I am both honored and enthusiastic to take on my new role as Secretary of the NMPCTC’s Executive Board. While this role is a shift in responsibilities, my commitment to the organization and the communities we serve remains unwavering. I am confident that, together with the newly elected leadership and our dedicated team, we will keep building on the NMPCTC’s successes and advancing our shared mission.”
