It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce that Charlie Alfero is transitioning out of his role as associate director and into a consultant role with the New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium.
Charlie was a founding member of the NMPCTC in 2013, and also served as the consortium’s first Executive Director. His tireless efforts to advance graduate medical education in New Mexico have helped to establish primary care training programs in some of the state’s more rural areas, while supporting the continued growth of existing programs in urban locations. Charlie’s guidance has also been key in expanding consortium membership from four family medicine residency programs at the inception of the NMPCTC, to twelve primary care training programs nearly a decade later.
“Charlie’s contributions to the consortium are immeasurable and we are eternally grateful for everything he has done to grow GME opportunities in New Mexico,” said John Andazola, MD, Chairman of the Board of the NMPCTC.
